Case study: Bracon hebetor
Bracon hebetor, a wasp ectoparasitoid of phyticline moths (such as Plodia interpunctella) is known to engage in ovicide (Strand 1988). An experiment conducted by Strand in 1988 found that when these wasps came in contact with a previously parasitised host with a clutch, the female would more often than not destroy said eggs. In fact, this rate was over 80% (Strand 1988), which was altered by the number of hosts she encountered as a whole, suggesting that there is definitely a method to this process, contrary to earlier theories of the behaviour.
